Linoleum flooring is one of the most popular choices for high-traffic areas in the house or at the workplace. It comes in a range of colors and styles. When it comes to care and maintenance, few materials can compare to it. The best part about linoleum is that it includes several different layers. This gives it plenty of resistance to scuffing and scratching.

Manufacturers make linoleum from several different materials, including wood flour, ground cork dust, pine rosin, and solidified linseed oil. There are also mineral fillers, such as calcium carbonate. This composite material is pigmented for color and texture, and is put on a canvas or burlap backing. The combination of ingredients makes a firm material that is an ideal floor covering.

With so many options out there for flooring materials, it helps to know everything possible about the different types of floors. Understanding how manufacturers make linoleum and what ingredients it contains helps flooring installers and contractors advise their clients effectively.
