Getting Rid of Residue Buildup on Hard Surface Floors

Nobody likes residue on their hard surface floors. Hard surface floors are a wise choice for commercial and residential properties alike. They are certainly resistant to most stains and scrapes, and will look beautiful for many years. However, no flooring material can fully resist poor cleaning methods, so you must care for it properly.

Strip the flooring or clean it with a solvent-based cleaning agent. It doesn’t matter whether the surface is stone, tile, concrete, resilient, or hardwood. Each surface requires proper sealing. Proper sealing helps resist spills and scrapes. Properly sealing the flooring material helps it resist most potential issues.

One of the biggest mistakes that customers make in caring for hard surface floors is the buildup of residue. Sometimes, cleaning products can leave a buildup that actually breaks down the sealant on the floor’s surface, especially if they contain vinegar or ammonia. Other products can leave a residue that builds up over time, trapping soil between layers.

If it’s too late and the residue has built up to the point that no cleaning program can help it along, it’s time for some serious action. Strip the flooring or clean it with a solvent-based cleaning agent. This will cut through the layers of residue all the way down to the original surface. The hard surface flooring can then be properly cleaned and resealed. Flooring contractors and other experts have the chance to start over with the flooring and get it to its proper condition.

After all this, follow the manufacturer’s recommended care for the hard surface flooring. Flooring contractors and inspectors have the responsibility to try to educate customers this way to eliminate issues down the road. Hopefully, moving forward, the customer takes proper care of the hard surface flooring so they can get many years of beauty and durability.
