As with any flooring, proper care and maintenance will go a long way toward preserving the look and feel of the commercial tile. Cleaning Upon Installation
The tile flooring will receive its first real cleaning during the installation process. The installer should make sure that there is no grout haze occurring, because that can change the texture and appearance of the tile surface. Grout haze is when water mixed with some grout material dries on the tile, leaving residue on the surface. If the grout haze is not removed before the grout material cures, it can be difficult to do so later on. Checking that the installer properly cleaned the commercial tiles after installation is extremely important and failure to do so properly can affect the slip resistance of the tile surface.
Regular Maintenance and Cleaning
Commercial tile is easy to maintain with regular cleaning. A vacuum or broom sweep is sufficient to get loose debris up. To avoid tile surface abrasions, this should be done daily. Wet mopping with an appropriate tile cleaning detergent is recommended a few times per week to get any residue on the tile surface. Soap or oil cleaners are never appropriate for tile. There is no need to use any surface sealant or wax coating for tile flooring as part of a maintenance plan.
If the tile flooring gets sticky, it is just fine to use a light abrasive cleaner that can be rinsed away easily. Similarly, a degreasing cleaner will work for spots where sticky residue has accumulated. For tougher stains, use a bristle brush or textured pad with the cleaner to get the surface clean.
Ongoing Inspections
As with all your commercial flooring, your business will benefit from the services of a certified flooring inspector. The flooring inspector will check out all the surfaces at the workplace, including commercial tile areas, and deliver a report based on the findings. If the tests of the commercial tile reveal that the surface is a slip and fall hazard, the flooring inspector will provide recommendations on what action to take to reduce risks.
