Hard surface flooring is an ideal choice for clients that want durability, easy maintenance and beauty at work or in the home. One of the best parts of hard surface flooring is that it lasts a long time. However, don’t confuse easy maintenance with no maintenance or the hard surface flooring won’t look its best or last as long.
What maintenance is required for hard surface flooring? Each manufacturer has different recommendations for how to care for their products, and clients should always follow those specifications. Using the wrong cleaning products or processes can ruin the material of the flooring quickly or expose it to conditions it was not meant to be in. For example, tile and stone can easily handle mopping, but too much water can turn hardwood and laminate into problem areas.
Sometimes, clients think that this type of flooring is indestructible and treat it poorly. Whether it means allowing grit and dirt to grind into the surface or pushing heavy furniture along it, there are definitely ways to damage hard surface flooring and make it wear out. An example includes letting dirt build up on a vinyl surface without frequent sweeping so that it grinds down the wear layer designed to protect the flooring surface and preserve the patterns underneath.
There’s no doubt that premature surface wear is usually caused by poor maintenance by the client. When taken care of, hard surface flooring can last for many years and look just as good as new.
