Sticky carpets can cause problems for clients. A flooring inspector may have to check out a sticky carpet. There may be several causes of the problem. Sticky carpet can come from dirt or debris tracked in, spills, or pet urine. Surprisingly, after professionally cleaning a carpet, it’s possible that too much residue stayed stuck on the fibers.
When soiled carpet is cleaned professionally, they should have the chemicals and equipment to strip away dirt, buildup, and residue from each carpet. The right balance of liquid, steam, heat, and suction can leave carpets fresh and clean.
However, if there is improper cleaning taking place, the results could be a gummy carpet. That’s because the process coats the carpet fibers with a cleaning solution, but fails to rinse it well. This residue can leave the carpet looking and feeling sticky or oily.
When a flooring inspector encounters all-over stickiness on a carpet, the most likely cause is a subpar job from the most recent carpet cleaning.
