Is the stretch of a synthetic back carpet important to know? When wall to wall carpet is starting to bunch up or ripple in the center, it may need to be stretched. This service, provided by professionals, takes up any slack in the center of the carpet.

Using special equipment, the carpet service stretches the fibers and backing to make it taut again. The expert cuts away any excess carpeting. Then the expert puts those carpet edges quickly back into place. It’s an easy solution to a common problem.

However, there are certain limits to how much each type of carpet can stretch. The max is based on whatever the backing material and fibers are. There are specific recommendations provided by the carpet manufacturer regarding carpet stretch. For example, tufted carpet with synthetic backing must only expand about 1 percent of length/width. Solid colored carpet may not need to be stretched as much to line up. Carpets with a pattern may require more to preserve the look.

Carpet inspectors and repair companies need to check with the manufacturer recommendations. Then, they will get the best results for carpet stretching.
