What’s the Difference Between a Spot and a Stain

spot and a stainWhen taking care of carpet, one of the biggest challenges is dealing with a spot and a stain. Many consumers are not sure what the difference is between a spot and a stain on carpet fibers.

The basic difference is time. You can usually clean up a spot shortly after a spill occurs. A stain develops when a substance sets into the carpet fibers, usually after it dries.

When owners learn how to take care of a spot and a stain, they will have long-lasting carpet that looks great.

When spots are taken care of right away, they usually come out of the carpet fibers with some water or perhaps some hydrogen peroxide. Stains require a stain treatment or stain removal kit that can remove them from the fibers. For serious stains, customers can call a professional who will use specific chemicals that will break down the substance and work with the carpet fibers to release the debris. Usually, a spot and a stain react differently to different treatments.

Whether it’s a spot or a stain, people need to rinse out any cleaning product or treatment residue. Otherwise, the chemicals will attract more dirt and debris, creating an entirely new stain.
