What’s the Best Way to Care for New Carpet?

Many clients want to know what to do to keep their new carpet looking beautiful for the next several years. The good news is that there are several things that business owners and home owners can do to keep their carpet looking as good as it did the day it was installed.

The first thing to do is to use area rugs for high traffic areas. That’s because these places on the carpet are at a higher risk for getting dirty and getting crushed. Traditionally, high traffic areas are the places in front of couches and chairs, hallways, entryways and children’s play areas. Area rugs can take the brunt of the wear and tear, protecting the carpet underneath.

Dry vacuuming on a regular basis can also help keep carpets looking good for years. Vacuums pull up the dirt within the carpet fibers and eliminate the dust, allowing the fibers to stay fresh and clean instead of dingy and dull.

Finally, carpets will benefit from a regular cleaning by a professional. Clients shouldn’t wait until the carpet looks like it needs to be cleaned. Instead, they should schedule routine cleaning every 6 to 12 months. Stain protection applied at that time will help protect the fibers and prevent dulling and crushing.

With proper care, carpet can last for many years and make clients quite pleased with their choice.
