Hard surface flooring is durable and beautiful and is the top choice for many commercial and residential spaces. From hardwood and tile to resilient and more, a hard surface finish is the best way to get long-lasting beauty and strength from flooring.

When hard surface flooring is made, it is designed so that the inner beauty of the material will show through, no matter what it is constructed of. However, this beautiful surface can be destroyed all too quickly without any kind of protective layer or finish. That’s where a strong finish comes in.

A hard surface finish on a floor is the best way to keep the flooring looking great and lasting a long time with minimal damage. The surface creates a wear layer that protects the underlying floor from damage. The flooring is intended to withstand all kinds of use and everything from wheelchairs and dirty shoes to high heels and hand carts can leave stains, scratches and more. The finish is the layer that accepts this abuse and provides a buffer between the actual material and the people and devices that move upon the floor.

For example, the finish on a hardwood floor would resist staining from stains that might otherwise discolor or damage the beautiful wood. It would also prevent dirt and grit from grinding into the wood, causing scuffing or scratching. No matter what the hard floor surface, there should be some type of finish on it, whether built in from the manufacturer or applied regularly by experienced professionals.

Hard surface floor finishes also make maintenance easier because the dirt, grime or liquids stay on top of the finish surface rather than sink into the material and permanently stain it. It holds the unwanted material on the very surface, making it easy to get whisked away via mop, broom or other cleaning process.

Business owners and home owners need to make sure that this top layer of a hard flooring surface is always maintained to keep the floor in the best condition possible, especially in high traffic areas. Many need to be reapplied regularly and this process should never be skipped or done incorrectly. All in all, a finish on a hard surface floor is the best way to preserve the look and ensure the durability of the material underneath.
