Tile is durable, beautiful and affordable, and many Salt Lake City Businesses include it in their store, office or factory locations. However, when it comes to caring for the tile flooring, many businesses don’t have a floor maintenance plan in place that will keep employees and customers safe from slip and falls, reduce liability and keep tile flooring attractive and long lasting.

Here are 3 things Salt Lake City businesses can do to create a tile floor maintenance plan that really works:

1. Spot cleaning

No matter what time of day, spot cleaning of tile floors cannot be stressed enough. The spot cleaning includes taking prompt action whenever there is moisture on the tile floor. Any spills throughout the day, whether it is from tracked in snow, a spilled drink, or something else, should be immediately cleaned before someone falls. If a spill can’t be cleaned up right away, there should be a plan in place to mark the spot with warning signs.

2. Daily cleaning

The tile flooring should be cleaned every day, including a dust mop and wet mop. The daily cleaning should definitely include cleaning solutions, but not just any will do. Make sure that the tile flooring is being cleaned by a material appropriate solution that won’t cause a buildup. The daily cleaning should take place before or after peak hours to reduce the hassle and hazard of slipping. Whenever the tile flooring is cleaned properly, it should be documented in written form and kept on file in the event of a slip and fall accident.

3. Regular inspections

Assign someone at work to check the tile flooring walkways, especially entries, several times per day to ensure there are no slippery areas that are going unnoticed. Also, hiring a professional, certified Salt Lake City flooring inspector to evaluate the tile flooring and point out any hazards is a smart investment. The Salt Lake City flooring inspector will check the traction of the flooring and provide recommendations as to how business owners can boost safety on tile surfaces. A Salt Lake City flooring inspector can also provide reports on the condition of tile flooring that can be used in the event of a liability lawsuit.

The key part of creating and implementing a proper tile floor maintenance plan at a Salt Lake City business is to train employees on the proper techniques throughout the day on how to reduce and even eliminate slip and fall accidents. All employees must be trained on floor safety procedures so they can monitor their own area and report unsafe conditions or take care of it themselves.

With the right tile floor management plan in place, Salt Lake City businesses can stay up to date, maintain records of responsibility and reduce the number of injuries and accidents at the workplace.
