carpet adhesives

Whether it’s for the home or for the office, no flooring material can provide the same look that carpet can. Today’s carpeting is durable, resilient and beautiful, giving clients plenty of choices when it comes to getting exactly what they want. Many carpets are put in place with carpet adhesive instead of carpet tacks, but what are the different types of adhesives used for carpet?

Carpet adhesives, sometimes called carpet glue, is most often used for stairway carpeting as well as wall to wall type carpet. Sometimes the adhesive comes in a spreadable form that is put onto the back of the carpet before laying it in place. It can be used on a number of different carpet styles like carpet tiles, smooth or coarse backed carpet and even felt-backed vinyl. However, the right kind of spreadable adhesive needs to match the carpeting because it is not a one-product-fits-all adhesive.

The other type of carpet adhesives comes already applied to the backing of the carpet and installers can simply activate the adhesive and put it down. This kind only works on certain types of substrate and the installer needs to ensure that the combination will work to create a tight bond between the flooring and the carpet itself.

Carpet adhesives can be made polyurethane adhesive, acrylic adhesive, a blend of polyurethane and acrylic and more. When it comes to choosing the right product for the right location, flooring contractors and installers should be able to get the job done.
