carpet seams

Carpet seams can be invisible when the carpeting is installed properly, or painfully obvious when it is not.

When a flooring inspector is at a site, they are looking for a number of telltale clues that show where the problems being reported have stemmed from. For example, if something was not installed correctly they need to show that, or if there is a deficiency with the materials, they must gather evidence for it. When inspecting carpet, every flooring inspector must check out the carpet seams to see that they were done properly.

During a carpet inspection, the flooring inspector should look at the following when it comes to the carpet seams:

  • Fraying or unraveling
  • Pattern mismatch
  • Overlaps or gaps
  • Color variations or color changes
  • Improper positioning
  • Lack of seam sealer
  • Poor application of seam sealer and/or seam tape

Once the flooring inspector can get a good look at the seams and how they were treated, they will be able to include their findings in their reports.
