There are several ways that a flooring inspector can approach a complaint for a pattern match problem. First, they need to look at the installation guidelines from the manufacturer. This will show what the company intended to happen to ensure that the patterns of the carpet did indeed match when installed. The carpeting in question should be installed according to the manufacturer’s installation guidelines. If not, the flooring inspector can look to the flooring contractor or installation team.
One thing the carpet inspector can look for is whether the carpet pattern mismatch is from the manufacturing stage. Certain issues can arise that warp the carpet pattern and make a proper installation impossible. Moreover, if the pattern is not square in both directions, it can bow. However, this causes problems with matching when it comes to cutting and seaming.
Other issues that might affect pattern matching include proper padding, moisture issues, irregular seams, subfloor problems, and chemical reactions to adhesives. Dealing with pattern match problems in carpeting takes expert knowledge that the flooring inspector must utilize to discover the problem.
