The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) imposes certain standards on properties throughout the country. One of these standards includes carpet tuft bind requirements. Homes that do not meet this requirement are not in compliance with FHA requirements, and that could jeopardize approval.

Cut pile carpeting requires manufacturers of carpeting of the pile yarn floor variety to be of good quality. The tufted and woven carpet should be free from defects and have no visible blemishes. Construction of the carpet should meet industry standards, and the different components, like backing and fibers, should meet the standards of the Federal Housing Authority. One of the more important requirements for the organization is that the tuft bind must meet a minimum standard to be approved. Tuft bind is how much force required to pull a fiber from the carpet backing.

So what is the minimum Federal Housing Authority tuft bind for cut pile? According to the FHA, the minimum for tuft bind is 3 pounds for a cut-pile construction. As long as the carpet meets this requirement, then things are looking good for the project.
