Spun staple yarn is used in cut-pile carpets and it is a versatile and soft choice for homes and businesses. It provides a range of different looks, from wooly to sleek. Learning how spun staple yarn is made can help consumers make the right choice. Spun staple yarn is versatile enough to be turned in a range of carpeting with all kinds of weight, colors and textures.

The fibers that make up spun staple can be either natural or synthetic. With synthetic, the fibers are pulled into filaments as thin as hair. The filaments are heated up, cooled down and shaped to boost strength. The filament is processed into yarn, and then heat set to avoid untwisting.

The yarn is then chopped into shorter lengths, anywhere from three to eight inches. Finally, the yarn is used in making carpet that lasts a long time and looks great.
