Carpet can be cleaned in several different ways, and there are definitely pros and cons for each one. For anyone seeking out information on carpet cleaning, it can be hard to choose. Here are more details about the advantages and disadvantages of some of the most common ways to clean wall-to-wall carpeting.

1. Dry Foam Shampoo

Advantages: The best part of dry foam is that it uses low moisture levels, which leads to faster drying times. Also, it can cover large areas quickly. It is ideal for surface cleaning and will never be the cause of over-wetting a carpet.

Disadvantages: Dry foam shampoo doesn’t provide the deepest clean out of all the options, and the extraction method is not as powerful as others, either. It’s ideal when used alternately with a deeper cleaning method.

2. Steam Cleaning

Advantages: Efficient at removing soil and requires top-quality equipment. It leaves behind little residue, and most carpet manufacturers recommend it as the best way to clean carpeting.

Disadvantages: Because it requires significant saturation, drying times are longer. Additionally, if the operator does not perform the job properly, it can lead to over-wetting. For carpet cleaners, the equipment is more expensive and requires frequent maintenance.

3. Hot Water Extraction

Advantages: Because it uses high heat, hot water extraction provides excellent results, including sterilization. The chemicals used to clean are properly distributed, and the residue is minimal.

Disadvantages: Because of the water used, hot water extraction can result in longer drying times.

4. Dry Extraction Cleaning

Advantages: Using absorbent powder, the dry extraction method is best for small areas and spot cleaning.

Disadvantages: Without powerful extraction equipment, the dry powder may not fully come out of the carpet.

5. Absorbent Pad Cleaning

Advantages: Fast-drying and covering a lot of area quickly, this method is ideal for cleaning in between deep cleaning methods.

Disadvantages: It’s not a deep cleaning method and won’t get the carpet as clean as possible. Additionally, there is no rinsing action using this method.

Business owners and residential home owners need to decide on which combination of carpet cleaning methods will work best for them and their carpeting.
