Stain Resistant Technology for Carpets

carpet with an orange stain on itCarpet is the ideal choice for both a residential setting or a place of business. Few things make the carpeting look better for longer than a good stain-resistant treatment. Stain-resistant carpet can withstand spills and stains like dirt, coffee, tomato sauce, and more. The way the fibers are treated helps them repel those spills and daily dirt, especially compared to carpet without any stain-resistant treatment.

So, what is stain-resistant technology in carpeting? To put it simply, stain-resistant carpet has a chemical dye or coating that has the capability of repelling most dirt and liquids. This dye coats each fiber and prevents foreign substances from absorbing into the fibers, making a stain. Synthetic fibers often naturally resist staining, such as olefin or polyester. Other common carpet fibers, like wool or nylon, are more likely to stain unless they have the specialized treatment.

When a spill or accident happens on the carpet, the best way to clean it is to blot it up. The treatment makes the liquid bead up, and it doesn’t sink into the fibers or the carpet pad. People should never scrub the stained area because that can undo the stain-blocking treatment easily.

No stain-resistant technology is perfect. Really tough stains need a professional treatment, such as pet stains or oil-based products. In these events, clients need to contact a professional carpet cleaner to ensure the proper removal of the stubborn stain.
