Laminate is known for its durability and resistance to stains, scuffs and more. However, when people are experiencing blotchy spots on their laminate, it can be very frustrating. Not only is it important for flooring inspectors to get to the bottom of what might be causing blotches in laminate, but to offer solutions to clients on how to fix the problem without causing permanent damage.
Blotchy spots on a laminate floor are most often caused by contaminates left over from an adhesive. They can also be traced to oily or waxy spills that were not fully cleaned up. The substances can attract more dirt and grime, turning the small light stains even darker.
When it comes to cleaning up blotchy spots on a laminate floor, the best approach is to use a mild solvent to remove the stain. Examples of solvents include acetone-based nail polish remover, mineral spirits and specialty solvents meant for adhesives. Always test the solvent in an out of the way area to ensure it will not harm the laminate surface. Put some solvent on a rag and let it soak over the area for a few minutes. Gently wipe and scrape the blotch, taking care not to scratch the surface of the laminate.
It may take a few applications to completely remove the stain. Always rinse with clean water to ensure that no residue remains. In no time, the client’s laminate will be as good as new without any blotches.
