Do you know the difference between marble and stone flooring? As business owners and homeowners look for ways to make their spaces more beautiful, yet want something durable and easy to care for, they are turning to solid surface flooring. Products like marble and stone floors are growing in popularity, and the installation business for these types of floors is booming. However, everyone needs to know the differences between marble and stone floors.

While marble is a type of stone, it exhibits characteristics that differ from other stones like granite and travertine. Marble is softer than granite and is also more porous, which makes it more susceptible to stains. Granite is more durable and denser, so it repels stains better than marble. These are just a few things that are different between marble and stone floors.

When deciding between granite and marble flooring, consultants and flooring contractors ask the client where the flooring will go. They consider how the space will be used. This helps them recommend the best option. Scratches and wear affect marble more easily in high-traffic areas, while granite and other stone flooring resist damage better. This means marble works better in low-traffic areas like bathrooms. Granite and other stones perform better in entryways and kitchens. They also hold up better in other high-traffic spaces.

Knowing the difference between marble and stone floors makes it easier to recommend to clients which one will work best for them. Choosing the right material for flooring is a key part of ensuring that clients are happy with the product and that they get years of enjoyment out of it.
